$10.9 MILLION INVESTMENT FOR COMMUNITY LANGUAGES

Community language schools will receive a $10.9 million investment from the NSW Government which will support teachers and deliver assessment resources to students across NSW.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced the investment at the NSW Federation of Community Language Schools Annual Dinner which recognises the work of the many teachers and community leaders who contribute to their local community language school.

The investment will support community organisations which teach more than 30,000 students in 54 languages at 500 locations across NSW. Additional funding will increase the number of students learning a language in NSW by improving resources available to teachers, and the teacher standards in our community language schools.

As a student of a Community Language School growing up, Ms Berejiklian said the benefits of learning a second language are well documented.“Learning a second language not only expands your cultural awareness, but it can lead to better academic results and improve career opportunities”.
